The KMTC diploma in nursing is one of the most sought-after courses. This is due to high training and graduates’ employability.
Nursing graduates from the Kenya Medical Training College have gained global recognition and are in high demand abroad, especially in the US, UK, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

KMTC diploma in nursing requirements
The following are the requirements for a diploma in nursing offered at the Kenya Medical Training College and other accredited nursing schools in Kenya.
Note that these entry requirements have been set by the Nursing Council of Kenya, a body that regulates nursing practice and training. If you enrol for the course without meeting these requirements, you will not receive a practice license therefore you cant practice as a nurse in the country,
- KSCE mean grade of C plain and above.
- C plain in either English or Kiswahili.
- C plain in either biology or biological sciences.
- C minus in chemistry, mathematics, or physics/physical sciences.
Alternatively, holders of a Certificate in Nursing from accredited training institutions are also eligible for enrollment. In KMTC, it’s known as upgrading (From cert to diploma). Upgrading from a certificate to a diploma in nursing takes 1.5 years to complete while direct entry takes at least 3 years.

- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Community Health Nurse).
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Community Health Nursing).
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (Upgrading from Enrolled Nurse /Midwife).

The fee structure is different for regular students (Government sponsored), self-sponsored, and international students. Note that the fee structure does not cover meals and accommodation.

The Kenya Medical Training College and the Ministry of Health reserve all the rights to make any changes to the fee structure. We will keep this page updated in case of such changes.
Students are encouraged to pay all applicable year fees at the beginning of an academic year. However, if that’s not possible, fees can be paid in instalments i.e. per semester.
You will be required to make personal financial arrangements to cover your expenses during attachments or research.
The fee structure does not cover food and accommodation.

Final thoughts on KMTC Diploma in Nursing requirements
A diploma in Nursing offered at KMTC is one of the most promising health courses that you can pursue.
To get a slot in the program, one needs to have scored a mean grade of C plain in KCSE with C plain in one Kiswahili/English, C plain in biology, and C minus in either chemistry, physics, or mathematics.
If you didn’t meet the cut for a diploma, you can start with a certificate in nursing and later upgrade.
School fees are manageable considering that the government offers student loans through HELB and HEF. Furthermore, one can receive academic funding through county bursaries.

I did bio/chem teacher up to year 3 and have been using helb, I later realized have messed because of maths, now, if I do nursing will I be given helb again. And do I qualify to be a regular?
I would advise you to complete your degree first. You are almost finishing up. if you ditch the degree for diploma in nursing, you will sure be enrolled as a regular student. On helb, im not sure if they can award you another loan considering you will not have repaid what you already own.
