There are eight KMTC certificate courses offered in different KMTC campuses.
These courses present a window of opportunity for students who want a medical career but scored below C Plain in their KCSE.
In this article, we will look at all certificate courses offered at Kenya Medical Training College and their requirements.
Note that the certificate course is not the end of the road. Students can later on upgrade to a diploma, higher diploma, degree, or even postgraduate courses.

The following are all certificate courses offered at The Kenya Medical Training College.

- Certificate in medical engineering
- Certificate in community health assistant.
- Certificate in nutrition and dietetics.
- Certificate in public health.
- Certificate in health records and information.
- Certificate in community health nursing.
- Certificate in emergency medical technician.
- Certificate in orthopaedic trauma medicine.
Requirements per certificate course
You need to meet respective entry requirements to study these certificate courses.
Certificate in Public Health
To pursue this course, a student is required to have scored a minimum mean grade of C minus in KCSE and in either English or Kiswahili.
Other requirements include a D+ in Biology/Biological Sciences, a D in Mathematics, and a D plain in either Home Science, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Electricity, or Woodwork.
The course takes two years to complete.
Certificate in Community Health Assistant
To be admitted into this KMTC certificate course, one should have a Community Health Course or Community Health & Development foundation course.
Direct entry requires a mean grade of C minus with D plus English or Kiswahili, D plain in biology, and D in either Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics/Physical Sciences, Agriculture, or Home Science.
Certificate in Community Health Nursing
This is the most sought-after among all certificate courses offered in KMTC. To pursue this course in the medical college, one needs a KCSE mean grade of C minus with C minus in biology, English, or Kiswahili and a D+ in either Chemistry, Physics/Physical Science, or Mathematics.
Certificate in Medical Emergency Technician
Otherwise known as EMTs, these medical professionals work in ambulances and handle patients before they can get into a health facility. This course only requires a KCSE mean grade of C Minus.
There are no minimum subject requirements. The course takes one year to complete.
Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology (form 4 leavers and in-service)
If one is a form 4 leaver, they need to have scored a KCSE mean grade of C minus in KCSE with D plus in biology, C minus in English or Kiswahili D minus in mathematics, and D plus in either physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, General Science, Computer Studies, Agriculture, Home Science, Economics, Geography, Commerce or Business Studies.
For In-service admission (those who are already working without academic qualification) one needs to have a KCSE mean grade of D plus with the same grade in either English or Kiswahili and D minus in mathematics.
Certificate in Nutrition & Dietetics
Certificate in Nutrition & Dietetics is the only D-plus course offered at KMTC. The course requires a KCSE mean grade of D+ with the same grade in English or Kiswahili, D plain in Biology, and D plain in chemistry or physics.
Certificate in Medical engineering
To be enrolled for a certificate in medical engineering one needs to have a D plain in mathematics, a D minus in Physics, and a C minus in either English or Kiswahili. Just like other certificate courses in KMTC, The KCSE mean grade for this program is C minus.
