Diploma in Education secondary option qualifications 2024

A diploma in education (secondary option) is one of the education courses offered in Kenya and one of three career paths to becoming a secondary school teacher in Kenya.

The other two options are a bachelor of education degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. To become a primary school teacher, you need a diploma in primary teacher education.

However, to enrol in any of these programs and be registered as a teacher, you must meet the requirements set by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education.

Diploma in Education Secondary option qualifications (Arts and Science)

To enrol for a diploma in education (secondary option) in either arts or science, you must meet the following minimum qualification requirements.

1. Have a mean grade of C+ in KCSE.
2. Have a mean grade of C plus in two teaching subjects.
3. Have a mean grade of C plain in English/Kiswahili.
4. A mean grade of C plain in math for science subjects and D+ in arts subjects.

Note that if math is one of your teaching subjects, you will need a minimum score of C+ in the subject.
