There are over 30 teachers training colleges in Kenya offering Diploma in primary teacher education, (DPTE) previously known as P1, diploma in education, and a certificate and diploma in early childhood development.

A diploma in primary teacher education takes at least three years to complete and covers modules in choldhood developement and psychology, education assesment, inclusive education, micro teaching, education leadership and management, and integrated content and pedagogy learning areas.

Diploma in primary teacher education (DPTE)

To be admitted for diploma in primary teacher education, you need at least a mean grade of C plain in KCSE. Candidates living with visual and hearing impairments can enrol with a mean grade of C minus.

Diploma in Early Childhood Development

The entry requirement for the course is a minimum of C plain in KCSE. Other courses include a Diploma in Secondary education and a Diploma in special needs education.
