HEF model tiers
Student funding under the HEF model is as follows. Funding to be received is determined by a Mean testing instrument (MIT), a system that determines the need level of a student.
The program uses the choice of program, household income band, affirmative performance, and government priority areas.
Vulnerable students
For vulnerable students, education funding will come from 82% scholarships and 18% loans totaling 100%. That means that students under this category won’t be required to pay anything.
Extremely needy students
Education funding for needy students will come from 70% scholarships and 30% loans totaling 100% education funding.
Note
Vulnerable and extremely needy students will not be required to pay any fee. Everything will be covered by scholarships and loans.
Needy students
Needy students will be required to pay 7% of fees. The remaining percentage will be covered by scholarships (53%) and loans (40%).
Less needy students
For less needy students, scholarships will cover 38% and loans 55%. They will be required to pay 7% of the fees.
TVET students funding
Students placed in TVET institutions will receive a maximum of 50% government education funding, and 30% of their education will be covered by loans. Households will be required to take care of the remaining 20%.
In summary
All students placed at a public higher learning institution through KUCCPS are eligible to apply for HEF. Funding will be allocated depending on a student’s need level.
