The Animal Health and Industry Training Institute (AHITI) offers short courses, artisan, certificate, and diploma courses in animal health and production/range management, dairy technology, leather technology, and many more that we will be looking at later in the article offered in Kabete, Nyahururu, Naivasha, Wajir, and Ndomba campuses.
AHITI is under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. In this article, we will be looking at all AHITI courses, their entry requirements, and fee structure.

Certificate in Animal Health and Production
This program will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work in the field of animal health and production.
It takes two academic years (four semesters) to complete, with each semester involving 15 weeks of classroom learning and a 280-hour field attachment.
Admission requirements
To secure admission to the course, you need to meet the following requirements.
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a mean grade of C- and at least C- in Biology or Biological Sciences.
- Any other qualification recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
Industrial attachment
The 280-hour field attachment provides practical experience in animal health and production settings, allowing you to apply your knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Diploma in Animal Health and Production
The Diploma in Animal Health and Production program has a duration of two academic years, comprising five semesters and 280 hours of field attachment. Each semester consists of 15 weeks of coursework.
Admission requirements
To be eligible for admission, you must have any of the following qualifications:
- A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an aggregate of at least C and a grade of at least C in Biology or Biological sciences, C- in Chemistry or Physical sciences, and at least C- in Mathematics or Agriculture.
- A Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) / East Africa Certificate of Education (EACE) Division II with at least a credit pass in Biology or Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physical Sciences, and Mathematics or Agriculture.
- An “A” level certificate with a minimum of one principal pass in Biology and at least one subsidiary pass in Chemistry.
- A minimum credit certificate in Animal Health and Production/Animal Health and Range Management/Range Management/Agriculture/Wildlife Health/Dairy Technology or equivalent with at least an aggregate of C- at KCSE or division III or its equivalent at KCE from institutions recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
- A diploma in a biomedical discipline recognized by the KVB.
- Any other qualification equivalent to the above from an institution recognized by KVB.
Diploma in Animal Health and Range Management
You’ll pursue a two-year Diploma in Animal Health and Range Management at AHITI, dedicating 280 hours to field attachment training.
Admission requirements
Admission criteria include a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an aggregate score of at least C, with grade C in Biology or Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry or Physical Sciences, and at least C- in Mathematics or Agriculture.
Alternatively, you may hold a Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) or East Africa Certificate of Education (EACE) Division II with credit passes in Biology or Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Physical Sciences, and Mathematics or Agriculture.
If you have an ‘A’ level certificate, then you need a minimum of one principal pass in Biology and a subsidiary pass in Chemistry.
Holders of a minimum credit certificate are eligible, with a certificate in Animal Health and Range Management, Range Management, Animal Health and Production, Agriculture, Wildlife Health, Dairy Technology, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
Similarly, holders of a diploma in a biomedical discipline recognized by the KVB can apply.
Other candidates with qualifications deemed equivalent to the above from institutions recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) may also apply.
Diploma in Leather Technology
You will study Diploma in Leather Technology for 2 academic years. It’s designed with two semesters each year, totaling 17 weeks per semester.
To be eligible for admission, you should have obtained a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an aggregate of C and at least a grade of C- in Chemistry or Physical Sciences.
You can also be admitted with Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE)/East African Certificate of Education (EACE) with a Division III and at least a credit in Chemistry or Physical Sciences.
Artificial insermination
The admission requirement for the course is a qualification in animal health either at a certificate, diploma, or degree level of study.
The course takes one month to complete.
Upgrading certificate in Animal Health
The course takes one year to complete, divided into two semesters with 270 hours of field attachment. Each semester consists of 15 weeks of coursework.
To be eligible for admission, you must have a Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor of Science in Animal Husbandry, Range Management, or Wildlife Health from institutions approved by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
Alternatively, you may have any other qualification recognized by the Kenya Veterinary Board.
